Everyone needs a Personal Marketing Plan
It’s a must for any business. It’s how they get customers in the door. It’s their marketing plan.
Since every business has should have one… And since we are living in a Brand You world… It only makes sense that we should develop a personal marketing plan.
I started working on mine last weekend. First, I started with a list of my values. I figured this was the best way to start, since those values are what I’ll be communicating to others and they are involved in every decision I make. If you’ve never written your values before, it can be a very powerful (and humbling) experience.
Second, I broke the plan into online and offline categories. Brands used to only be about the people you met in person… Now brands are reflected by everyone you interact with, online or offline. (And by what happens when you Google yourself.)
Online- Online includes my social networks I’m part of (Facebook/LinkedIn/Ning), Twitter, and blogs. My social networks I plan to update once per month to keep them consistent and up to date. Twiiter - I try to find one person per day to reach out to. Lastly, I’m aiming to comment on at least two blogs per day and write three posts per week. (I’ve been failing at both of those lately)
Offline - I plan to attend two “networking events” per month. This really can be anything in the community. It can be a Branding Breakfast, a Central Iowa Bloggers meeting, a Tweetup, or even doing some volunteer work. It just assures that I’m getting out in the community and meeting people face to face.
I also try and have coffee with at least one person per week to catch up (or a phone call if they’re an online friend.) And I try and sit down with at least one new person at work each week. Which, when you’re new, really isn’t hard to do.
But that’s about it so far. It’s completely a rough draft… I’m just curious to see what I’m forgetting…
What do you think?
