Landing a job takes two things
Traditional job searching means are done. Through. Finito. No more.
Sites like Monster.com, Careerbuilder, and the newspaper classifieds are awesome if you’re looking for a job in telemarketing, sales, or network marketing… But if you’re looking for something more than that, you’ll probably hear about it elsewhere.
Isn’t job searching a crazy process when you think about it? You spend four years busting your ass in college… And getting a job really comes down to two things: getting your foot in the door and nailing an interview.
Make that three things… I forgot about lady luck.
But lady luck doesn’t always just appear… you’ve got to give her a reason to show up.
Scott Ginsberg said it best when he wrote a few posts about “Becoming the Luckiest Person You Know.” My favorite piece of advice he gives:
The best way to be in the right place at the right time is to be in a lot of places.
Luck is most prevalent when it comes to getting your foot in the door. It happens when someone’s uncle knows the HR person at Company X. Or when some else bumps into a stranger at the airport that happens to be a CEO… All of the sudden, they have an interview.
I’m sure you’ve heard that 70% of jobs aren’t even advertised… They are the jobs that are gotten through networking… But do you consider that to be luck? Or talent?
It’s luck that a CEO was sitting beside you on a plane… but you are the one who took the initiative to talk to that person. It’s a two way street. I look at it from the perspective of one of my favorite quotes…
Luck occurs when Preparation meets Opportunity.
What do you think? Luck… or talent?

Heck yeah, dude.
L.U.C.K. is an acronym for “Working Your Ass Off.”
FYI, that’s copy-written
Holy sh*t… Scott’s commenting on your blog? LUCKKKKKYYYY (in my best Napoleon Dynamite voice).
I think you put it well with preparation meeting opportunity. You have to be intentional in your approach, then great things happen. The universe has a crazy way of attracting what you’re intently looking for.
